Heart FM – More Music Variety. Fuck off! I love the fact that OFCOM actually investigated whether this was misrepresentation. Yes that is a fact! OFCOM‘s ruling was “whilst repetitive, the network was not in breach of any radio protocol with its’ ‘more music variety’ slogan.” OFCOM have clearly never listened to Heart for more that an hour!
Heart used to be played at my place of work, so I heard it all day, everyday. Not only are the songs repetitive, but so are the DJ’s and the adverts! They seem to have this bizarre list of songs that get played every couple of hours. One of them is possibly one of the worst songs to ever get to number 2, (The really bad one’s get to number 1!) 4 Non Blondes – What’s Up. This song makes a Genesis concert sound appealing!
Some of the shows are regional and some are networked, and my god they’ve got some shite! Weekday regulars include Toby Anstis (yes the guy from CBBC’s The Broom Cupboard (where he probably should’ve stayed)), and Nick Snaith from BBC1’s Holiday. It’s as if Heart is a safe haven for people we don’t want to see on Television anymore. That trend continues with Jason Donovan (currently on holiday – what a shame), Emma Bunton (maybe they hoped she’d spice things up a bit) and last and definitely least Mark fucking Wright (from The Only Way Is Essex). As you can see there’s a terrible list of absolute helmets, who are joined by piss poor songs and annoying local business adverts!
To justify my hatred, below is the playlist from today (27/03/2013). There’s not one single song on their playlist, that has been released in 2013!! On top of this playlist, they play a lot of stuff from the 1980’s. I for one hate 80’s music. To quote something my dad once said “even artists who were good in the 70’s, became bad in the 80’s”.
- Adele – Set Fire To The Rain. Yes released in the UK on 14/07/2011. That’s almost 2 years ago, and it only hit number 11!
- Adele – Someone Like You. Obviously a much bigger track, which sat at number one for a long time. Still though released in the UK on 24/01/2011!
- Alyssa Reid – Alone Again. Hit number one. Released in UK on 29/01/2012
- Beyonce – Love On Top. Only made it to number 13! More importantly it was released in the UK on 9/11/2011!!
- Bruno Mars – Count On Me. An absolutely horrible song, which wasn’t even released as a proper single in the UK. However it peaked proudly in the charts at number 78!
- Bruno Mars – Marry You. Never released as a single (officially), but in January of 2011 it made number 66 in the UK charts.
- Charlene Soraia – Wherever You Will Go. A cover version of an ‘alright’ song that made number 20 in the UK in October 2011!
- Christina Perri – Jar Of Hearts. It made number 4 when it was released in the UK on 27/7/2010!
- Coldplay – Paradise. This was a UK number 1. It was however released in September 2011.
- Twilight – Cover Drive. A UK number 1 in February 2012.
- Ed Sheeran – Lego House. Hit number 5 in the UK charts, in November 2011!
- Emeli Sande – Next To Me. You hear Emeli about 1,000 times a day on Heart. This particular track is the most popular. It reached number 2 in the UK in February 2012.
- Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know. Released in the UK in December 2011. This piece of musical drivel got to number 1 in the UK.
- Jason Mraz – I Won’t Give Up. This peaked at number 11 in the UK, in January 2012!
- Jessie J – Domino. This track made number 1 in the UK, when released in August 2011!
- Katy Perry – The One That Got Away. Released in the UK on 4th December 2011. It reached number 18 in the UK charts.
- Madonna – Masterpiece. Part of the soundtrack for the film W.E. This single from the wrinkled ‘has-been’ reached number 68 in the UK in April 2012.
- Marcus Collins – Seven Nation Army. Another member of the X-Factor throwaway family. This cover reached number 9 in the UK in March 2012.
- Maroon 5 – Moves Like Jagger. This monstrosity of a track was released in August 2011 and made it to number 2 in the UK. God I hate this song.
- Olly Murs – Dance With Me Tonight. This was released in November of 2011, and made it to number 1 in the UK.
- Olly Murs – Oh My Goodness. More shite from the X-Factor throwaway family member. (No matter how far he’s come, that’s where he started). Was number 13 in the UK in April 2012!
- Pitbull – Give Me Everything. Really? It doesn’t exactly fit in with the rest of the playlist does it? This tool got to number 1 in the UK in June 2011 with this track.
- Pixie Lott – All About Tonight. This shite made number 1 in the UK in September 2011. Why the hell would they keep this song in their playlist now? It wasn’t good when it came out!
- Rihanna – We Found Love. With the help from legend Calvin Harris, this made it to number 1 in the UK in October 2011!
- Will Young – Jealousy. This pretty much sums Heart FM up. Crap! This got to Number 5 in the UK in August 2011. Somehow…
TERRIBLE STATION
Bring back the Pirate stations before this crap called commercial radio poisioned the airwaves. In those days the dj’s could entertain there listeners too and play decent music.
Heart Fm is a total sack of shite.
I have been listening to Heart FM for a while and I am getting so bored of the same songs being repeated over and over again everyday. Why do they not play a real variety. The DJ’s must be so fed up with them but they still try and sound enthusiastic.
we have a similar situation at our work. Heart Fm is played all day everyday and its is bloody awful. surely the DJ’s find it boring aswell! Only problem with my work is that we only have Fm so are stuck with heart fm as its the only station we can get! My have top go and buy a DAB radio with my own money for use at work.
I’ve just started a new job 12 hour shifts. The job is great but heart is on all the time and sometimes I’m crying having to listen to this rubbish. Absolute radio have a no repeat garuntee and they actually don’t repeat a thing. I’m trying to get a petition together to get the management to change stations. Just about to do some research into mental health problems at work as I think I’m getting depressed
Totally agree. Should be called ‘heart attack fm’
Spot on Jacky.
Still the same old shite!!!
This radio station is so boring I listen other radio stations. When I do listen to it they are still playing the same old crap.
Heart F.M possibly the worst radio station ever more variety of the same shit every day should be called Fart F.M for the guff that they play, turn it off first opportunity I get retune to radio 2
5 years on- no change! Absolutely horrendous station! Also the ads are all mixed up? Cut off half way through then come back on again?!!What’s that all about?!
This was part of the reply I received when I complained about them playing the same songs , this is so patronising …. heart fm reply
They don’t necessarily want a variety of any songs, for example AC/DC into Barry Manilow does nothing more than alienate listeners instead of keeping them listening.
Research
Same , I’ve complained but received a patronising email back, if I hear the song ‘wake me up when it’s all over’ again! And again . They don’t seem to take complaints seriously .
I agree same music played every day have these artists got some agreement with heart fm , out of all the songs in the world they play the same shite
I just searched on google “why does Heart play rubbish songs” and I found this haha! Heart plays a few good songs here and there but a lot of it is awful pop songs that make it sound the same as any other station. I prefer BBC Radio 1 but that follows a similar format. Heart never plays rock/indie/grime or anything that’s not sweet soft pop,at least you can find that on Radio 1!
Nothing has changed…. same 30 songs played on shuffle all day every day. I am buying some earplugs for work as I can’t stand hearing the same songs day after day month after month. I started a new job 3 month ago and I am hearing the exact same songs today as I did when I started. It is torture
It isn’t just heart radio ….radio 1 is just the same looking at the programmes the DJ s all seem to play the same music !!!!!!
I wholeheartedly agree, how on earth do they manage to stay in business?!? I mean, the playlist has changed since this post, but it’s still on a 2-4 hourly cycle. What the fuck would it take to add a few tracks or change something, ANYTHING, once a day. The worst thing is that it’s pretty much the only station you can pick up. Radio 1 is practically impossible to get around here (so much for the “unique way” in which it’s funded), that’s a ton of vacuous drivel, but at least it varies and occasionally delivers a good tune.
I agree it should have been prosecuted as their variety is from a few songs eternally played over every few hours there must be some financial gain!!
I like the 80s as much as 70s though but atm they keep playing a cover version of Queens somebody to love which is a pathetic comparison to the original
I only listened yesterday never again
unbelievable…3yrs since the original post and still the same problem.
Now 5 years- still the same old sh1t!!
I also couldn’t agree more!
Couldn’t agree more!!
Can’t believe how often Olly Murrs and Micheal Bubly are played on Heart FM. I truly believe Heart FM have shares in these 2 knobs the amount air time they get 😡
I quite agree heart is shit. They play the same old crap every day day in day out.Its like a stuck record.Sort it out heart.
The real reason Heart play the same old shit is because it throws all the narrow minded morons completely out of sync if they hear music they’ve never heard before, or atleast 20 times before. Research has been carried out on this subject and the results were mindblowing.
Women working in a warehouse putting items in a bag were asked to do their job with Heart on for one day. Every job they did was done correct. Then they were asked to work with BBC Radio 6Music for a day. They messed every single job up. 5 hooks were being placed into bags when there were meant to be 20 (some bags on had 1 in) and they started using the biggest bags in the whole warehouse just to place 2 suction cups in.
A mother of 3 was also tested in the same way whilst doing her daily housework. When Heart was on for a day everything was fine, but when 6Music was on for a day, she had hoovered the ceiling, stuck ice cream in the toaster, dressed the kids in the wrong sex clothing and had stuck the cat in the washing machine.
A female driver was also tested with this scenario but didn’t live to tell the tale. When she was told to listen to 6Music, she drove 90 mph the wrong way round the M25 three times and ploughed into a field of foot and mouth free cows.
Like Starship said, Marconi plays the Mamba.
It’s a media controlled system designed to manipulate and brainwash working class people of society while at the same time destroying music and it’s working. It is a proven face but NOBODY is allowed to have a different opinion. This should be their new jingle…
“The same old shit is what we play, the same old shit every God damned day, the same old shit is what we do, the same old shit 5 songs just for you!! No music variety – this is Heart.”
It is because it is all a great big brainwashing scam where we are dictated to as to what music we should like in order to ”conform” to modern day ways of thinking in life. We are classed as freaks and a part of street life if we admit we like ”different” music.
People listening to different music MUST be on drugs all the time and MUST see life as one big party. These sorts of people will never have kids, or kids who grow up to live healthy long lives. We have Heart on at my work and it HAS to be on that station.
The rule is as long as it’s nowhere near me and I can’t really hear it I don’t care. I would never choose to suddenly put music on my own because that would only lead to everyone in the workplace backstabbing you. It is the way it is and we have to accept it. Of course, I’m the one who’s seen as miserable because of this. I’d just rather enjoy silence and my ear worms.
I enjoy music in my own time and just get on with my work when I’m at work and don’t care about music there. There’s too much judgemental narrow minded control freaks and corrupt money greedy music corporations out there that this is what happens. Money destroys everything doesn’t it people? From music to football. What and who we ”should” love and respect in life because they are the rich at famous ones? Well I think that way of life sucks because people are ending up destroying things the human race created to love and enjoy so answer me that?
Enjoyed that rant. 😉
Heart FM plays everyday at my work place, I’m surprised theyve even got any listeners with the repetitve playlist, drives me insane!!!
Heart FM drives me nuts… the most mind-numbing stew of dreary middle-of-the-road pop shit, looped over and over (and over) again, sandwiched between the same irritating commercials. It’s repetitiveness is really noticeable to me, as well as the fact that the update rate of the playlists seems to imperceptible.
Unfortunately it seems to be the only station deemed mutually acceptable in our office (Radio 6 was deemed ‘too street’ by someone from finance) so Heart it is. I’d honestly rather have silence, but it always ends up getting turned on again.
Frankly they play music for people who aren’t really into music.
I hate this station. With a passion.
More music variety is utterly laughable – if by more music you mean more Taylor Swift, Adele, Whitney Houston and something obscure from the 90’s then great! Oh, and be sure to play the same songs every single day. Shania Twain – Feel Like A Women, every single day. This is ultimately HousewifeFM isnt it. These songs that are supposed to be empowering to the lady at home doing the chores, sweeping whilst listening to ‘I’m every woman’.
Toby Anstis – I can;t stand this gossiping pr!ck. Possibly the worst person on this station actually – I hate every single thing about this poor excuse for a radio station BUT have to listen to it at work as the middle-aged female Office Manager likes to mumble along to the songs. Says it all.
If this Radio Station is played in your workplace, it will make you hate the songs you once loved.
Starship, Nothings gonna stop us now. If I hear that effin song one more time I’m gonna spontaneously combust. They play it about 4 times a day. Whilst I quite like 80’s songs. This is shite. Then there is that shite cheer leader song, that one really makes my ears bleed. There are far more better 80’s tunes, as well as more up to date stuff.
I had to comment. In my place of work, I have to listen to Heart FM all day and I get fed up of the same songs being played every single day. Songs like Taylor Swift’s ”Blank Space and Shake it off”, Maroon 5’s ”Sugar”, Jason Derulo’s ” I want it too”, that awful Marvin Gaye song sang by someone else and even Whitney Houston’s ” I wanna dance with somebody”.
I often wish I could put my headphones on and listen to the songs on my phone but I’m not allowed to.
Thanks god I found this site. They play this in the office and despite a few discussions and changes, it always seems go back to Heart FM. It is giving me grey hairs and making me feel negative feelings of stress and hate. It is so fucking shit and repetitive, I wonder how anyone would enjoy listening to the same shit every single day. I have to put headphones in and listen Radio 6 Music. Heart is still slightly audible but I am mostly blocking it out. I think it will make me leave this job.
I have to endure this shite excuse for a radio station at work all the time . If I hear Patrick swayze “shes like the wind” , Journeys “dont stop beleiving” or Taylor swift “shake it out” ….oh not forgetting “uptown bastard funk” (which seems to be on 15 times a day ) Im gonna set fire to the radio
I’ve got the petrol, just coming out of my comatose state, end up listening to this shite lol!!!
Had to comment here, this “radio station” should be removed from the air! It is such mindless bollocks played for morons who really can’t see how bad it is. Surely it is just background drivel.
Listening to music should be enjoyable and all about hearing new exciting tracks….not here, no way!
Couldn’t agree more, over two years on and its still just as bad, if not worse, still repeating the same over and over, why they put us through it i just dont know, they dont deserve to be called a radio station if they are not willing to put the effort into playing different songs all the time.
Heart FM is for stupid people, as they seem happy to listen to the same repetitive songs, sometimes up to 3 times in a day, day in day out, week in, week out, month in, month out. Even when they play older songs, its the same handful of songs played time after time.
Along with the inane drivel spewed out by the moron DJs, it’s an absolutely awful radio station.
Toni Braxton playing unbreak my heart right now – same song every day. Arrghhhh.
Heart FM is played in my workplace – but not for much longer – if you suffer with awful radio, simply report your employer to the PRS. They’ll soon get rid of the radio!
What is the PRS?
As well as Pitbull – Give me everything being constantly played, have you ever noticed it is actually a completely different edit of the song?
When I queried this, I was told that Heart FM has a “No Rap” policy so will just loop parts of certain tracks to fill the normal play time (3-4 minutes).
Why not play the song as intended or not play it at all, or better still, play something which isn’t old!
